What is Music Together?
Music Together is a nation-wide, research-based early childhood music program, founded by Ken Guilmartin in collaboration with Lili Levinowitz, for the Center for Music and Young Children. CMYC strongly believes all children are musical, and with a stimulating, supportive and relaxed atmosphere, each child’s basic musical competence may develop and shine. This is reached in a non-instructional manner, where everyone is encouraged to be free and spontaneous. There is no “right” way, nor formal music instruction, only tools allowing families to create simple and spontaneous musical activities within the context of daily life. Music Together emphasizes the importance of the child’s role model, mainly his/her parent or caretaker, therefore, adult participation is stressed to give the child confidence to play, sing, dance and chant. Class becomes a wonderful time for adults to find their “inner child” as well as bond in a musical and care-free way with their baby.
How it works?
FUN with Music Together consists of a group of children, ages newborn to 4 years old. Side by side with their parent or caretaker, the children sing, dance, and chant during a 45 minute session of interactive music-making. We develop their voices through singing songs and tonal patterns while we develop their sense of rhythm through age-appropriate instruments and rhythmic patterns. These exercises usually take place sitting in a song circle or by dancing around the room. Also included in your fee are materials to take home which consists of an illustrated songbook, two CD (one for home and one for the car) and Parent Guide Book. Class sizes range from 6 - 12 families per class and make-ups are available!
